Smile Align
What are Smile Align Active Clear Aligners
Clear orthodontic aligners have been available since the mid 1990s. Most of these systems have been manufactured overseas making the cost, to a great extent, prohibitive in the South African context and excluding a vast number of potential candidates as a result. The development of digital dentistry has enabled the design and manufacture of a multitude of dental devices which are more accurate and predictable in their outcomes due to high definition CAD/CAM software and manufacturing processes. Not least of these are the digitally designed orthodontic aligner systems. A process which was formerly designed and manufactured by a laborious manual process is now far easier to achieve and clinically more acceptable due to strict orthodontic principles encapsulated within the CAD software. While you as the prescribing clinician have the freedom to decide on the remedial approach you also have the advantage of a design system which can offer solutions where uncertainty exists. In these situations the prescription proposed by the designing Technologist in conjunction with the orthodontic CAD system is available for your review and confirmation prior to any manufacturing taking place.
